This kit includes signatures for neuropeptides. Neuropeptides are chemical messengers made up of small chains of amino acids that are synthesized and released by neurons. A given neuropeptide is often co-released with other neuropeptides and neurotransmitters from a single neuron in response to stimuli. Once released, neuropeptides can diffuse widely to affect a broad range of targets throughout the body.
KIT CONTENTS:
Agouti-related protein (AgRP)
AgRP is co-expressed with NPY and acts to increase appetite and decrease metabolism and energy expenditure.
α-Endorphin
Endorphins are endogenous morphine, neuropeptides, produced in the pituitary gland in response to stress and pain.
Arginine-Vasopressin (AVP)
Vasopressin neuropeptide involved in modulating various physiological processes, including autonomic signalling, stress response, behaviour, and memory; the most well-known modulation is of blood pressure.
β-endorphin
Bombesin
Neuropeptide involved in gastric functions and the regulation of food intake.
CART Neuropeptide
This neuropeptide and neuromodulator in the brain, endocrine system, and gastrointestinal tract. It plays a crucial role in regulating feeding behavior,
Cholecystokinin (CCK)
A neuroactive peptide co-released with GABA and dopamine. This peptide is produced in the GI system and is responsible for stimulating the digestion of fat and protein.
Corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH)
Together with its high-affinity receptor, CRH receptor type 1 (CRHR1), CRH orchestrates the neuroendocrine, autonomic and behavioral stress responses
Dynorphin A
Dynorphin is a neuropeptide involved in pain, addiction and mood regulation. It exerts its activity by binding to the kappa opioid receptor (KOP) which belongs to the large family of GPRs.
Galanin
A neuroactive peptide co-released with Norepinephrine/noradrenaline. Galanin has been implicated in many biologically diverse functions including waking and sleep regulation, cognition, feeding, regulation of mood and more.
Glucagon-like peptide 1
A neuroactive peptide co-released with dopamine and in response to food consumption.
Gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH)
GnRH is the pivotal neuropeptide regulating fertility and reproduction in vertebrates
GPCR G-protein-coupled receptors
Neuropeptides typically bind to GPCRs to modulate neural activity and other tissues like the gut, muscles, and heart.
Ghrelin
In stimulating hunger, it activates other key neuropeptides Neuropeptide Y (NPY) and Agouti-Related Protein (AgRP).
Insulin
While produced primarily by the pancreas, insulin also crosses the blood-brain barrier and is synthesized directly by certain neurons. It functions as a neuropeptide in the brain.
Leucine Enkephalin
A neuroactive peptide co-released with Norepinephrine/noradrenaline, serotonin and other neurotransmitters. Enkephalins are found in high concentration in the brain and cells of the adrenal medulla. It is released in response to stress and pain.
Methionine Enkephalin
This neuropeptide is produced in the body to help modulate pain perception, immune function, and stress responses by primarily binding to opioid receptors.
Neurotensin
A neuroactive peptide co-released with dopamine and epinephrine/adrenaline. It is distributed throughout the nervous system.
Neuromedin B
Involved in blood glucose control; suppresses the appetite.
Neuropeptide S (NPS)
NPS is mostly expressed in the brainstem and helps modulate emotions.
Neuropeptide FF (NPFF)
NPFF is a neuropeptide that helps regulate pain, opioid tolerance, and metabolism
Neuropeptide Y (NPY)
NPY is a 36-amino acid neuropeptide that is involved in various physiological and homeostatic processes in both the central and peripheral nervous systems. It is secreted alongside other neurotransmitters such as GABA, dopamine and glutamate.
Nociceptin
Nociceptin is a 17-amino acid neuropeptide that with its receptor helps modulate pain, anxiety, stress.
Orexin
Also known as hpocretin is a neuropeptide that helps regulate sleep, wakefulness, appetite.
Oxytocin
This well known neuropeptide promotes bonding and a sense of safety. New research, however, indicates that in some can promote negative “approach-related” emotions such as envy. Released by neurons in the pituitary.
Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating polypeptide (PACAP)
PACAP is a neuropeptide widely distributed throughout the nervous and endocrine systems. Its primary role is to regulate stress responses, protect nerve cells.
Somatostatin
SST is a neuroactive peptide co-released with GABA produced in the hippocampus. GABA’s principal role is reducing excitability throughout the nervous system.
Substance P
A neuroactive peptide co-released with acetylcholine, serotonin and other neurotransmitters. Substance P and the NK1-receptor are widely distributed in the brain and are found in brain regions that are specific to regulating emotion. Substance P is a key first responder to most noxious/extreme stimuli (stressors).
Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH)
A neuroactive peptide co-released with Serotonin and produced by neurons in the hypothalamus. It stimulates the release of TSH and prolactin involved in the production of human mammary glands and milk.
Vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP)
A neuroactive peptide co-released with Acetylcholine. VIP has many roles including vasodilation, lowers blood pressure, relaxes smooth muscles of the stomach and more.
